On the surface we all want to be healthy. We all want to be athletic. We all want to be the best version of ourselves. So the question arises why do so many of us (yes this includes me) struggle to stay on the path?
The answer is simple, we enjoy things that are not particularly good for us. Bad food tastes so good, sitting on the couch and watching television is enjoyable. On top of that we are all extremely busy so convenience is king in our world. Grab and go food allows us to fit more in; but healthy grab and go foods are far and few between. Life also has a way of throwing hurdles in our way; parties, holidays, friends coming to town, these social events usually revolve around food.
Ultimately living a healthy lifestyle is hard, however if you struggle it does not mean you are lazy. There is a false stigma that people who struggle with weight are simply lazy. This simply not true, most out of shape people are that way for the opposite reason. These people put so much time and effort into being successful in every other aspect of their life, fitness becomes an after thought.
Let's say you are a successful business
person with kids at home. From the time you get up till the time the kids go to bed you are on. You are dealing with stress from all angles and throwing everything you have at keeping your ship running tight. By time your day is done so are you, the last thing you want to do is workout or prep food. You probably don't even have time during the day to enter the food you eat into a food tracker. The last thing you need is the added stress of entering data into a food tracker when your whole day is spent entering data into a system for work.
So we have established that we are all extremely busy and making fitness a priority seems impossible. Now what do we do about it? Step one is find what drives you. Find a reason to improve your health. This needs to be something you are passionate about. So do a little exercise with me, write down why you want to be fit. Now write down why that is important to you. Now write down why that is important and repeat two more times. That fifth why might be what is truly important to you. It might take you a few more whys to get there. The real reason might hard to face but we need this deep driving force to help realize that fitness needs to be a priority no matter what. This is the first step into changing some priorities!
So what do I want you to take away from my rambling today, YOU ARE NOT LAZY, you just need to find your true why and driving force. Now this is the tip of the iceberg, step two will be not feeling guilty setting aside time for yourself and we will deal with that next time.
