Try Not to Feel Guilty
You know you need to carve out time to take care of your health; but this means sacrificing doing things for other people. Maybe you are a parent, a spouse, or a busy professional that always puts others well being ahead of yourself. Your view point probably is I don't have time to take care of myself because I have to take care of everyone else. This is a very common view point and you are not alone!
The truth however is if you do not take care of yourself you can not take care of others! This is the view point you must take to alleviate some of the guilt. If you fall ill, develop lack of energy or mobility, or start to come down with the diseases associated with being overweight you will not be able to properly help others. This means that carving out time to take care of yourself is taking care of others. The healthier you are the more you can enjoy your time with others, so step one is to make a plan.
This plan revolves around carving time out for yourself! Find a half hour block 2-3 times a week and let it be known that is your time! Now for the hard part, never miss this appointment, leave the kids with your spouse, ignore phone calls and emails, and go exercise! At first you feel apprehensive, nervous, and guilty. You may feel like you are neglecting responsibilities, but trust me the others in your household are capable of picking up the slack. You will find that every time you do this it will become easier, there will be less guilt, and you will trust others to take care of things (its only half an hour three times a week after all).
In conclusion, take care of yourself so you can take care of others, try to put the guilt aside, schedule training sessions, and enjoy the time to yourself!
